Monday – The Anxiety of the Aftermath

So, I told you about how I’ve been doing some freelance hustling. Immediately after I wrote that post, I was hired for my first ‘vanilla’ project. I slogged away, researching a topic about which I was unfamiliar. I was nervous when I accepted the job, but that was nothing compared with the fear and sob-inducing terror of having delivered the finished work and waiting for a response.

Will they like it?

Will they hate it?

Will they want something completely different from me? I followed the specs, and we discussed what they were after, but have I delivered it?

Will I get paid?

Will I get duped?

Will it lead to more work, and at a higher rate per hour next time?

What the actual fuck- how do freelancers cope with the anxiety of the post-delivery moments and the agonising wait for the verdict?

I’m so nervous right now that I have a heavy ache in my chest, a jittery feeling in my legs, and I feel like I could cry. How do people do this?

Friday – A Moment of Calm

Well, it’s been an exhausting juggling act, but I made it through the anxious aftermath. Two projects, six articles, and more jobs lined up for next week. Providing the invoices from this week’s work get paid on time, and if I could maintain the same or similar hire rate in the future, I just might be able to not just match what I make from the day job, but exceed it. It’s an uncertain world though, moments of pure fear and stress, but in the knowledge that once the tough project is finished, I can put it behind me and move on to the next.

As a result of how busy things have been, though, I haven’t had a lot of opportunities to blog, and I’ve missed it! I miss all you lovely Lair-ies! πŸ’‹ But, I am still planning to publish a SoSS this weekend, and I have a new erotic fiction (“Maid of (Dis)Honour”) being published by LELO on their blog VolontΓ© and going live on Sunday. I’ll post the link when it’s up- hope you’ll enjoy it. And in amongst all that, I’ll be spending a “quiet” (or not so quiet, if you catch my drift πŸ˜œπŸ‘„) time with the lovely fella, “H”- a much needed respite after a chaotic but ultimately rewarding week.

Thank you to all the well-wishers for your kind words of support. I adore you all, and am so thankful to you for giving me the confidence to move forward. πŸ’“

And, finally, do you follow me on Twitter? If you do, I dare say you’ll have noticed that I’ve been sending out cryptic teasers about some upcoming erotic horror fiction. I’m in the process of finishing it off, but am pleased to say that I’ve nearly wrapped and…

“It’s cumming….”

Love, Jupiter x 🌺

      1. I’m sticking with brave 😝 You’ve thought through what you need to do this and you didn’t just quit the day job without having anything to fall back on. 😊

    1. Oh, it sent before I finished! 😯 I was going to say, possibly foolhardy in taking the risk, but we never get anywhere without trying.
I’m sure that if you can find enough courage to start, you’d soon get the confidence to keep going. πŸ’–πŸ’‹

      1. Hehe.. gotta love technology. I’m getting my feet wet with a review or two. Cold contacted two companies and they said yes, so I figured it’s a start in the right direction. πŸ˜‰
I’m working on an erotic horror as well but I do believe completely different direction than yours from the teasers. I love horror movies and stories/books. My brother and sil are going as Jack and Wendy for Halloween this year.

      2. That’s excellent! congratulations 🎊 Definitely a huge step in the right direction to get two yeses from cold contacting!!

Ooh, I look forward to reading your erotic horror. I love that kind of thing, too. Totally spooking myself recently with ghost and paranormal horror films on the streaming. Got such a fright from one scary scene that I jumped and threw my piece of KFC across the room, lol!! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
